Calling 311 in New York City
New York City's 311 system receives millions of non-emergency service requests every year — noise complaints at 2am, heating failures in January, rats in the basement, cars blocking driveways. This visualization maps over 7 million of those requests filed between 2022 and 2025, letting you explore how five categories of complaint are distributed across the city's neighbourhoods and how that distribution has shifted year by year.
Drag a lens onto any part of the map to see the breakdown for that area. Stack all three lenses to compare Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx side by side — or zoom into a single neighbourhood to see what residents there are calling about most.
