Kungsleden

Kungsleden

Kungsleden — the King's Trail — runs 440 kilometres through Sweden's northern wilderness, from Hemavan in the south to Abisko in the north. It passes through some of the largest areas of protected wilderness in Europe: Sarek, Padjelanta, and Abisko national parks, where the landscape shifts between alpine tundra, birch forest, river valleys, and bare mountain plateau.

The trail is dotted with mountain huts operated by the Swedish Tourist Association (STF), making multi-week trips feasible without carrying a tent for most of the route. In summer it draws hikers from across Europe; in winter, cross-country skiers. The northernmost sections fall within the area of continuous daylight in June and polar night in December.
