Sunrise and Sunset

Hover over any point on the globe to see the full arc of the sun's path for that location on the current date. An orange curve traces how the sun rises above and sinks below the horizon throughout the day — revealing the dramatic differences in daylight between equatorial regions and high latitudes, and how those differences shift through the seasons.

At midsummer in northern Scandinavia, the curve barely dips below the horizon. At the equator, day and night are nearly equal year-round. The visualization makes these patterns immediately spatial and intuitive in a way that tables of sunrise times cannot.
